Lore Story
“Stay here! Don’t come out, no matter what you hear, little one, stay here until morning and don’t come out at any cost!” A woman took Elis’ hand in her hands and looked her straight in the eye. “You have to tell me that you understand!” Elis nodded. “No! You have to promise me! Promise me you’ll stay hidden here until morning, no matter what you hear!” her mother pleaded.
“I promise,” a crying Elis replied. She was scared.
“I love you, little girl!” her mother kissed her forehead and closed the door behind her.
The doors lead to a secret room. As the Mekveti was closed off from other empires, Elis’s parents hid most of their supplies in this room. At the same time, they left enough in the pantry in case people came to plunder them. And one they came. Desperate villagers plundered every family that was formerly rich. And so, Elis heard all the horrible things happening outside of the secret stocked chamber. They murdered her parents and looted the place. At least their neighbors were somewhat kind and buried the parents in front of the house.
Elis came out of the hidden pantry in the morning. She sat down by the smoldering fireplace, put her head in her hands and cried. She sat there crying for hours. After calming herself a little, she went to the front door which she found broken. So little Elis ventured outside, where she said goodbye to her parents at the graves and returned to the house. That was the last time she was outside the house. She left the front door open as a sign that the house was already looted. She heavily barricaded the door that led from the lobby to the main section of the house.
And so, Elis lived quite peacefully in the house, waiting for help. One day somebody knocked on the door. Frightened Elis slowly and quietly approached the door. She peeked out the window a little but she didn’t see anyone there. No one was standing there and yet someone was knocking on the door. This was the first time Elis had discovered that evil beings roamed Mekveti. The banging on the door became louder and louder. Elis just stood petrified with fear and wished it would end. “Please!” a voice coming from the door said. After a while he added “Let me in, I’m hungry and I’ll need to warm up!”.
“A-… And who are you ?!” Elis asked.
“My name is Wallace, I’ll just warm up in your house for a while and leave, and if you have anything to eat, I’ll be very grateful, but I don’t want to bother you much,” he moaned. Elis wanted to open the door; she could barely see outside the window due to bad angles. Still, she stopped.
“I … but I don’t see you, can you step back a little so I can look at you?” Elis asked. He did not answer.
“Are you there?” Elis repeated herself. Suddenly, instead of silence, she heard loud noises, as if someone banged on the door. The door shook slightly so Elis ran to hide in a secret chamber. Wallace, unable to enter, decided to leave.
But peace didn’t last long. Wallace returned almost every week. There weren’t too many living beings left in Mekveti, and he could sense them. He always went in the early evening, but would always leave after a few minutes of knocking when Elis wouldn’t react to him.
One day Elis saw people. At least she thought it was people. They must have noticed the fire. Elis would leave the fire burning throughout the day and would extinguish it for the night, so as to not attract unwanted monsters during the night. But she fell asleep for a while during that day, and when she woke up, it was already dark outside. She let the fire to smolder and unblocked the door to the lobby. She wanted it to look like someone had been there for a while and then left. Elis hid in a secret room and stayed there for three days until the visitors left. And it paid off, she thought several times that she could offer them food and lodging until somebody would arrive to save them, but she had resisted. The visitors were a group of traveling cannibals who had killed Curtis. They no longer killed only due to hunger, they killed for pleasure. They went crazy due to what had happened to them after the fall of the empire. Later, Wehi circled around the house for a few more days looking for revenge. Fortunately, he wasn’t looking for Elis.
And so, Elis lived in peace once again for a while. until one day the ghost of a beautiful woman with an emerald necklace passed through the door. She was beautiful, but not entirely human. Fortunately, Elis was close to a secret room where she ran to hide herself and once again stayed there for a few days before daring to venture out. Corin searched the house but left as soon as she couldn’t find anyone.
The days have passed, and the occasional strange flicker of a creature in the mirrors forced Elis to cover them all. This is how she lived and survived for three long years. There was plenty of food, but the wood was gone. She wanted to go out to the forest to collect some wood, but she couldn’t. It was too dangerous. The fear of horrifying creatures was much greater than the fear of freezing to death. And so, Elis sat at home, freezing and dressed in whatever she could find, but winter was harsh and unpredictable. Once Elis went to bed this cold, she didn’t wake up the next day.
And so, the last human being on Mekveti died of the cold, with a secret room full of food in the realm where most people starved to death.
Elis became a ghost. Later in 813 she roamed the edge of the Tumna Sam forest. Here she seeks out the company of other people and tries to help them. However, people have no idea that her help is just hallucinations, stories that she created in her head when she was alone. Elis herself isn’t malicious either, she just doesn’t quite realize that she can’t help people, even if she wants to.
“There was a group of people who set out on an adventure in the Glyesyer realm. Equipped with knowledge of what might happen to them in the forest, they packed enough food and set out. There were four boys and one girl. They bravely defended themselves against the visions of Wehi, who was already waiting for them at the gate, and went through the forest through all the barriers.
At the edge of the forest, they decided to make a fire, but unfortunately, all the wood was damp. At that moment, Elis appeared, explaining that she was not evil, and that she was on the edge of the forest to avoid other evil ghosts and that she could help them make fire.
The group knew that Elis was just a ghost, but it seemed different. She was a nice little girl who offered to help them, there was no reason to decline, each of the ghosts they met never looked so human. And so, Elis made a fire with a simple wave of her hand. The group sat around the fire to warm up and unpacked the goodies they had with them. For hours, Elis told stories about the good and bad times on Glyesyer.
Late at night, they went to sleep, from which they never woke up. Fire and heat merely an illusions Elis had created. The whole group froze to death in their little camp. It’s hard to tell if Elis even knew what she was doing. She just longed for a company she missed so much.”
