Lore Story

King Aaron, as Queen Anne’s only son, inherited the Dorian Gift. All his life, no matter the circumstances, he helped souls find the right path. He devoted himself to this calling so much that he forgot that one day he would also have to fulfill his royal duties. Queen Anne tried to marry her son many times, but he never showed any interest. He preferred talking to the souls of the dead. They would talk about their lives before Aaron brought them to the light. And so Queen Anne began to hold balls every year. Each year Aaron had shown little interest in any of them. Though everything changed when he turned seventeen.

The prince stood behind the royal throne with his friend from the house of Frey. Families from all over the empire arrived at the ceremonial ball that Queen Anne hosted. One by one, they approached and paid their respect to the queen. Though she was very old, she still very much enjoyed gifts. Everyone was welcomed to come to the ball. However to enter the ball you had to bring a very expensive gift, so only rich families were able to attend. House Daspan brought a rare dagger just like every year. House Oraniori donated gorgeous robes, house Nyamara offered precious elixirs, and house Lentus brought precious food from all over the world. Aarton and his friend commented on each girl from every family. It was a ball mainly for him, Queen Anne wanted Aarton to choose his bride.

The last to bring their gift was house Avantyur. The gift was a very rare gem that, according to legends, was supposed to prolong the owner’s life. But it wasn’t the gem that captivated Aaron. It was the daughter who accompanied her father. His wife could not show up because she was pregnant and the trip was too risky for her. They introduced her as Alanis, the future king captivated by the daughter’s beauty could barely pay attention.

As soon as the music started. Anne was usually supposed to have her first dance, but since she was no longer very lively, she left the tradition to her son. Aaron didn’t even think about it and chose her first, a beautiful girl and auburn hair. So they danced together for a long time and just looked into each other’s eyes. It was definitely love at first sight.

Queen Anne was usually supposed to have the first dance, but due to her age and fading health she left the tradition to her son. Aaron didn’t think twice about whom to choose for a partner and went straight to the most beautiful girl in the room. So they danced together for a long time and just stared into each other’s eyes. It was definitely love at first sight.

The couple then decided to walk through the royal gardens. There Aaron learned the sad truth. Alanis was the firstborn, and because of the curse that had plagued her family for centuries, she was certain to die at the age of thirty. But Aaron was not going to give up.

“I’m king, I’ll find a way to break the curse.” Aaron said to himself. He was seventeen and she was fifteen, 15 more years seemed so far away.

When the ball ended, the families returned to their homes. Aaron couldn’t stop thinking about the girl, and he believed she felt the same. From that day onwards, he counted down every single day until the next ball. His friends tried to help him keep his mind off thinking about her, but he couldn’t help it.

Another ball was held the following year. After the guests brought gifts, Aaron invited Alanis to dance again. And they danced all evening. And once again they visited the royal gardens, where they kissed under a pink full moon. After Alanis left, the prince had a painter sent to their estate, who brought back a picture of his loved one. Shortly afterwards, Alanis was invited to the royal court. Her family agreed.

Alanis had been at court for several months before Aaron asked to marry her. Soon after, Alanis was pregnant. Though Queen Anne was still alive, Alanis was liked by everyone and people treated her with honor. Fortunately, her firstborn was a son. They named him Caleb. Shortly afterwards, another son Leon was born, he was the one who inherited the Dorian gift. The third child was Christian and the house Avanryur features were undeniable. From an early age, he pretended to be a little pirate and would always try to find treasures wherever he could. At that time, Aaron was already king and twenty-eight years old, Alanis was twenty-six.

The king spent a lot of money on adventurers from all over the world to try to avert the curse. Aaron traveled with his wife to far corners of the world, visiting the most powerful healers and wizards, but no one could help Alanis.

As a last resort, just before Alanis turned thirty, house Avantyur decided to send for the king. They thought that, as a descendant of house Dorian, he could read the golden necromantic plate correctly and thus break the curse. So they sent a messenger for the king, it was too risky to send the plate itself. However, house Trey learned of this plan. They certainly didn’t want the king to risk too much for one woman. A misread of the plate had once cast a terrible curse on the family. They didn’t even want to think about what would have happened if it didn’t work out again.

House Avantyur thought a little differently. For centuries, they guarded the golden plate of necromancy very carefully. But now they saw all the benefits that a place of honor at the royal court would offer them. They knew that losing Alanis would be very difficult for them. However, the messenger they sent never reached the kingdom. House Trey had him murdered along the way. And so the beautiful Alanis, merely a second after her thirtieth birthday, breathed her last breath holding Aaron’s hand.

Aaron couldn’t deal with his grief for years. However he led his beloved wife“s soul out of this world right after her death. It was her wish. And so he continued to rule in solitude. Slowly everyone around him began to call him „The sad King“. Years passed and a broken heart healed very slowly. Meanwhile, his eldest son Caleb fell under the spell of a dark witch. Christian conspired with another witch named Cassidy. King Aaron focused mainly on the son who was supposed to be his successor. Aaron helped him to learn how to interact with souls of the dead and help people. He often accompanied Leon on his travels when he was still too young. On one such trip, he met elf Claire.

Claire was one of the portal protectors to the Faome Empire. She was very tall and beautiful. Hardly anyone could resist her charm. Not even the king could help himself. And so one beautiful night he secretly arrived at her house in the city where they spent the night together. Shortly afterwards, his daughter was born — Caira the half-elf. Claire was killed by the witch Samara when the child was only eight, so Caira continued to grow up at court.

When Caira arrived at the court, the eldest son Caleb was no longer there. He escaped with a powerful witch to an unknown place in Arljan. Even though rumors were spreading about where they were, Aaron didn’t want to hear about it. Caleb was still his son, Aaron believed that a good part of Dorian blood would eventually win. But the magic of the witch, who had once been banished by another king, was too strong.

Time passed and Aaron still remembered Alanis. Her birthday was celebrated all over Arljan every year, and the day of her death was mourned. And though his four children could not fill the hole in his heart, he was still a good and kind king who was devoted to his gift and walked the path of destiny.

However, fate was not kind to Aaron and another one of his sons was lost. Christian entered a portal created by the witch Cassidy and never returned. Aaron grieved more and more, and when his third son and illegitimate daughter disappeared, his heart burst with grief soon after. Even so, he lived to a respectable age. He was then replaced by the only one of his sons who returned. It was Caleb who married the dark witch Samara, who was already pregnant at the time. The prophecy predicted that he would be a boy.

“Young Prince Aaron was playing in the tall gardens. But he was not alone, he knew he was being chased by a boy.

“Can I play too?” The boy asked, trying to pick up a stick from the ground. But the hand just went through the stick — it was just a ghost. The prince was not afraid of him, he was used to this. But the hardest part of helping the lost souls was having to explain that they were not among the living anymore and that it was time to leave this world. So, he tried to explain it carefully to the boy. What a surprise it was when Aaron found out that the boy knew about it already.

“I know I’m dead, I see the light pulling me in, but I can’t leave.”

“Why?” Aaron asked.

“My mom thinks I died because of her. I was very ill and we didn’t have enough money for medicine. But my mother didn’t know that my illness could not be cured, nobody did. I found out only after coming to the other side. Please help me, my mother is very worried, I am afraid she will die of grief.”

The ability to talk to the dead was no secret. Everyone in the realm of people knew that the king had this ability, and so did his son Aaron. So, he let himself be led to the boy’s mother. She lived alone, her husband had long since left. Her son was her only joy in this world, but she could not protect her own child.

When she saw young Aaron standing in the doorway of the old living room, she knew he was not alone. She began to cry and slid to the young prince’s feet.

“My son sent you, didn’t he? I was hoping he would find peace. It is my fault that he is dead, and now his soul is wandering around and he doesn’t know where to go.” The hysterical mother pleaded. Aaron began to cry himself, he helped the mother sit down, and explained that she was not responsible for her son’s death. He explained that the illness he had was unfortunately predestined before he was born and there was nothing that could be done about it. He explained that her son could go to the light, but he refused until he knew his mother was safe. Because he loved her very much and knew that she had given him much. He always had enough food to keep from starving, and more importantly he was given love, which others don’t get that much. He had a short life in poverty, but it was rich and beautiful, and he wanted nothing more than for his mother to move on and stop worrying. To always think of him as a happy boy with a loving heart not tears in his eyes.

Aaron offered the boy’s mother a place in the kitchen at the castle, so that his mother could start a new life. Finally, the boy could walk peacefully into the light without any regrets left. After that, the mother also found peace in her soul, and although she never had children again, she always remembered her son with a warm feeling in her heart.
