A wooden sword struck Victoria’s hand. She reacted slowly again. Even though it was only a wooden sword, a blow from the best swordsman in Arljan brought her to the ground. She already needed to rest. Princess Victoria trained for hours every day. The art of swordsmanship has become the meaning of life. She picked up a wooden cup and raised her goblet toward Ornel, “So to your victory again!” she said. He smiled slightly, to some extent he didn’t like hurting the king’s daughter like that. “Wait until you start learning in Valyar, I’m only half an elf, but what about training with pure elves?” Ornel raised his goblet and bowed politely.
There was a sound of stamping horses outside of the door. Victoria exchanged her wooden sword for a steel one and went outside with Ornel. It was a royal messenger bearing grim news. King Nathan has died and Eleonora will soon be crowned. This news hit Victoria hard. She sat down on the bench outside. Ornel sat down next to her and hugged her around the shoulders. “May he rest in peace” he said. Victoria stared at the beautiful azure sky. She laid her head on Ornel’s shoulder and sighed loudly. Nathan was ill for a long time. She loved her father dearly and grieved heavily. At the moment, she was probably thinking more about Eleonora. She didn’t want to be queen. It was hard to follow in the footsteps of Nathan, the first herald of house Dorian who healed the land from the devastation of necromancers. As soon as the gift manifested to Eleonora, everyone began teaching her that no matter how she felt, she had to serve the people as destined. Children without Dorian’s gift always had a life free of duty, so Victoria chose the path of a warrior.
They sent a carriage for Victoria. She loaded things into the carriage and then swayed on her beloved horse. She motioned Ornel a goodbye and threw him a bag of gold for his service. The road to the royal palace was peaceful. People hung black banners in their cities and houses. There was a deep sadness throughout Arljan. Victoria thought of her nanny telling her that when someone died in Mekveti, the people would feast and drink to celebrate the life of said person. The people would also tell stories of great and successful kings. She smiled a little for she knew that most of the Mekveti kings were very stupid and had never achieved much in their lives.
The king’s funeral and preparations for the coronation of the new queen were in full swing. Even though this day belonged to these two people, no one could take their eyes off Victoria. She was absolutely stunning, with beautiful azure blue eyes and long blond hair. She greeted her sister like a best friend. They were very close. Victoria was perhaps the only one who knew how unhappy Eleonora was from her mission, so she tried to cheer her sister up as much as she could. They loved and supported each other very much.
The funeral was sad and boring. A quiet feast with a big toast from Eleonora and Houses who came together to see the new queen. Eleonora was crowned the next day. The coronation was modest and quiet. But on that occasion, she gave Victoria a sword. A beautiful sword, set with a moonstone and enchanted by the wizards of Arljan, to bring good luck and agility in battle. She named her sword Elenor in honor of her sister.
After the coronation, Victoria said goodbye to her sister again and returned to training with Ornel. She remained with him for another three years, until he admitted that he taught her everything he could. Then Victoria went to Valyar, the land of the elves. A place with the four most famous warriors. Each of them taught her for two years. After these years, Victoria knew how to use a sword like the best elves, and her bow skills were so excellent, that there was no one in the world of Eros who could surpass her in archery. Still, Victoria preferred to use her sword.
The year is 612, the wizards in Andomine are beginning to subjugate this empire. Even though it was they who had left for Andomine hundreds of years ago. They now claimed this realm. Peaceful plant people, as the people of Arljan called them, were oppressed and murdered. They did not even defend themselves; they only lived in a territory that the wizards wanted for themselves. Victoria returns from learning to her land.
A vast army was ready to move to Andomine. Queen Eleonora did not officially want to receive refugees. She just wanted to protect her people, but she also didn’t want to watch people suffer. When Victoria found out that Eleonora would send an army to fight, she asked her to lead the army. Eleonora strongly disagreed, but Victoria was adamant. Eleonora knew that Victoria would go into battle anyway despite her disapproval.
Eleonora soon had Victoria called. She was waiting for Victoria in a great hall. She sat on the throne and next to her on a pedestal was beautiful armor. Tailored exactly for Victoria. Lightweight, yet durable. “The Avantyur sent a precious stone to defend against magic.” Eleonora said, looking at the armor. Victoria approached the armor and remained amazed, the most beautiful armor she had ever seen. “As queen, I order you to return alive,” Eleonora said, standing up. She hugged Victoria and they both cried. Eleonora prepared for her journey. As she was leaving the manor, she turned and waved goodbye to her sister. She ordered the army to advance and they passed through the portal.
Not only the people of Arljan, but also several elves from Valyar joined to help the plant people. The war was terrible, the wizards cast one spell after another, and they were skilled at fighting. Victoria took part in three major battles. The first was the Battle of Xantor. Victoria experienced for the first time what it really was like to kill someone. Fire magic was cast by the most powerful wizards before the army could reach them, a quarter of them disappearing immediately. Then the fight began, the wizards deftly waving their swords and casting spells, the ordinary soldier had no chance against the wizard himself. Victoria’s advantage was in the size of her army. When the wizards realized that they would not win this battle, they fled cowardly.
The second battle was the Battle of Birol. At that time, humans and elves celebrated a huge victory. The wizards’ army was scattered without major losses.
The third battle was a turning point. Victoria’s army was winning with a huge advantage. But the wizards were not alone that day. During the battle, a huge army of dwarves appeared. Dwarves who made a pact with the wizards. Their strong armor could not be pierced by elven arrows, and their maces crushed the bones as if it were nothing. It was a long battle, but Victoria’s army had no chance. And so, they retreated. However, during the retreat, Victoria was struck by a spell so strong and powerful that without the stones to protect against magic, she surely would have died on the spot.
Victoria felt a strange sensation when she opened her eyes again. As if it was her, but part of her wasn’t. Cassidy stood over her, mumbling something. Trying to look around, she turned her head next to her and Eleonora laid beside her. At that moment, she realized what was happening, she stood up, and pushed Cassidy away with force. She took Eleonora in her arms and tried to wake her. She tried shaking her and cried. Everyone who was present cried. Queen Eleonora was dead; she did not survive the Endurian ritual.
Victoria sat on the ground, holding her sister’s limp body, crying and screaming. Everyone present was amazed. Victoria adopted the Dorian Gift. Eleonora just watched the unhappy Victoria moan. “Why?!! Why did you do that!!!” Victoria shouted at her. “Viky,” Eleonora addressed her the way she did when they were little girls. “I’ve been wondering all my life why I’m in this world. I never asked for the throne or the gift I received. I never understood the meaning of life, but when they brought your body, I knew what had to be done.” Eleonora leaned over, “I’ve come to say goodbye, sister, and to inform you that I’m feeling much better now. But I have to leave, the force is too strong, and I’m too weak, unlike you.” She stroked Victoria’s crying cheek. “I love you, Viky.” “I love you, El.”
Victoria sat on the ground crying for a few more minutes, holding her sister’s dead body. Then she stood up and looked in the mirror. Her blue eyes were no longer blue. Now they were green, like Eleonora’s. Her face took on noticeably different features. Every time Victoria looked in the mirror, she saw her sister in herself. Most people would inherit much more during the Endurian ritual, but Victoria had a strong and dominant personality. As a result, she did not succumb to depression as often as Eleonora. Although from time to time it was very, very difficult for her.
There was a funeral on the next day. Great funeral just like the one when their father died. Victoria wanted people to celebrate her sister’s life. The former queen’s funeral was more festive than her coronation. The people of Arljan loved queen Eleonora. Even though she did not achieve any significant milestones, she was still a very wise and just queen and helped many families to live better.
Victoria ascended the throne. No celebration took place. She was still affected by her sister’s death, although she understood her to some degree. Queen Victoria then began accepting refugees from Andomine. She did so just before a huge catastrophe that destroyed all of Andomine. Of course, many wizards disagreed with what happened on Andomine. Many of them were treating plant people with the Endurian ritual, and many of them became animal-like. Under Queen Victoria’s rule, everybody was welcomed. She gave them land to begin their new life on Arljan.
Life in Arljan was flourishing. Thanks to the reception of refugees from Andomine, the economy has grown and technology has progressed. All the houses fully supported their queen, and she even established a martial arts school for girls, where any girl of any age could go for training. The queen also tried to increase literacy in her empire by introducing mandatory lessons for writing and reading. Although most people only knew the basics, it was a step forward for the people of Arljan.
Queen Victoria later married Noah of the House Treya. It was not a marriage based on love, but it was full of respect and great support from both sides. Noah Trey was a very skilled warrior and helped Victoria reach victory in famous battles against the dwarves in 632 and 636. This time the wizards fought on the side of the humans as well.
Victoria wrote a code that each of the wizards had to sign if he wanted to live on Arljan. It included, for example, the prohibitions of dark magic and the use of the Endurian ritual. The witch Cassidy was expelled during her reign, although she greatly helped her father, Nathan. Victoria never forgave her for allowing her sister to die.
Thanks to the Endurian ritual, Victoria gained enduring health. She ruled for an incredible 89 years and lived to be 120. She and her husband had a son, Maverick, who unfortunately died at the age of 30. The next successor to Victoria was her grandson, Elliot.
Victoria was buried with her sword in an unknown place. As with Eleanor, the people of Arljan did not mourn. They rejoiced, drank, danced and told stories of the great victories of this very powerful queen.
